When Fortescue marked its 20th anniversary late last month, it was not your average cocktail party.
The company flew 700 guests into the middle of the Pilbara to celebrate the milestone.
Champagne flowed freely and Jimmy Barnes performed his greatest hits as founder Andrew Forrest partied well into the night. During the speeches, the billionaire insisted the company did not revolve around him but he was about to get a lot more attention.
Just 48 hours after the party, Fortescue announced its new CEO Fiona Hick was leaving, the tenth senior executive to depart in just three years.
And by the end of the week, there were two more high-profile exits.
This week in The Fin podcast, reporters Brad Thompson and Peter Ker on what’s behind the executive churn at Fortescue, how it will affect the company’s green energy reinvention and whether Andrew Forrest is just too hard to work for.
