Al Pacino got into financial trouble with $400K in landscaping for a house, 23 cell phones, and 16 cars, which he never used. When Al Pacino realized he was broke in the middle of the 1980s, he was seeing Diane Keaton.
Despite being a tremendous box office and critical success, Pacino reportedly only received $35,000 for the film, so it wasn't a big payday for him.
He writes that he was broke when he finished making 'The Godfather.' He didn't have any money at all, but he owed money. He had to rely on Jill Clayburgh for support while his manager and agents took their cut of his pay.
He made more money with ‘The Godfather II’ in 1974 and a lot more with ‘Scarface’ in 1983, but he hadn't managed his finances well.
He wasn't working very hard; he produced just five movies in the 1980s. In his latest biography, Sonny Boy, the 84-year-old actor recalls that he had about ninety grand in the bank. He didn't want to leave the country where he had his home. He was putting out but not bringing in; he was spending but not making. He got taken advantage of, and his accountants might be at fault, as quoted in a report by Page Six
