The wedding, arranged seven months earlier, began with traditional festivities on December 22. The bride’s family warmly welcomed the baraatis with sweets and later served them dinner. However, tensions escalated when a member of the groom’s party accused the hosts of delaying the serving of rotis.
Efforts to calm the situation proved futile as the groom’s side blamed the bride’s family and departed in anger. To the family’s shock, the groom vanished during the night and reportedly married a relative soon after. Heartbroken and humiliated, the bride’s family approached the Industrial Nagar Police Station to lodge a complaint. When no action was taken, they escalated the issue to the Superintendent of Police (SP) on December 24.
The bride’s family reported a financial loss of Rs 7 lakh, which included Rs 1.5 lakh given as dowry to the groom’s family. The bride has requested the SP to register an FIR against five members of the groom’s side and initiate legal proceedings.
The bride’s brother, Raju, criticized the local police for their inaction, despite assurances from the SP. He highlighted the lack of response from the authorities and expressed disappointment, especially in light of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiatives to set up women’s help desks in police
