Gadar 2’ magic is still going strong, with no signs of slowing down at the box-office.
The Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel-starrer has reportedly earned a spectacular Rs 465 crore at the box-office. The period action drama stayed as steady as rock at the box office and earned a decent Rs 5.10 crore on August 29, the 19th day of its release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the box-office collections of the action drama. “#Gadar2 continues its HEROIC RUN… Look at the #BO performance of this film on *weekdays* too, it’s PHENOMENAL… Meanwhile, #Gadar2 crosses 3 cr footfalls, as of Monday noon… [Week 3] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 13.75 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 4.60 cr. In an interview with Times Now, Deol revealed that Shah Rukh Khan, his co-star from ‘Darr’ had actually called him up to congratulate him. “He had seen this film and before that, he called me up and wished me and he was so happy, he told me 'I am so happy, you genuinely deserve it' and I said 'thank you',” he told the entertainment portal.
‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar’. Patel, Deol, and Utkarsh Sharma reprise their roles as the truck driver Sikh Tara Singh, his Pakistani wife Sakina, and their son Chiranjeet ‘Jeetey’. The film takes place during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. Tara travels to Pakistan again, this time to rescue his son who is being incarcerated by the Pakistani Army.
The original ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ hit the theatres in 2001 alongside the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Lagaan’. It went on to be a box-office juggernaut. Made on a budget of Rs 18 crore, the Anil Sharma film crossed Rs 133 crore at the box-office.
