Makanpur area of Indirapuram on Friday morning as a minor lost their life due to a lightning strike. The morning brought an unexpected burst of rain accompanied by strong gusty winds to various parts of Delhi and the neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR).
Regions in South West Delhi, including Vasant Vihar, Munirka, and RK Puram, witnessed light rainfall in the early hours today.
This abrupt change in weather, marked by rainfall and strong winds, provided a welcome relief from the stifling heat that had persisted over the past few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that such spells of light rain, coupled with gusty winds, will gradually subside after 9:30 am on Friday.
In a weather bulletin shared on its official X handle at 7:29 am, the IMD reported, «Delhi-NCR most likely to experience gusty winds of speed 50-70 kmph and moderate rain with a few occasional intense spells due to approaching clouds from NW Uttar Pradesh until around 09:30 today, thereafter gusty winds and rain spells will gradually decrease. Be updated and stay safe.»
In a subsequent update, the IMD mentioned, «Thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain, including heavy intensity rain over a few areas, along with gusty winds at speeds of 50-70 Km/h, would occur in and around the entire Delhi and NCR region (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula).»
The sudden shift in weather conditions serves as a reminder of the need to stay vigilant during unpredictable weather events, especially in the interest of safety.
