Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has given the green light to an updated pet dog policy, addressing issues related to dog-human conflicts. This decision came during a board meeting in Ghaziabad.
The newly introduced guidelines under this policy can be summarized as follows:
Limit on Pet Dogs: Residents living in a 182-square-meter private unit are now allowed to have a maximum of two pet dogs.
Those in a 273-square-meter unit can have up to four. Importantly, no residential unit, including those within housing societies, can have more than four pet dogs.
Responsibility for Stray Dogs: Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Apartment Owners Associations (AOAs) will now take responsibility for stray dogs within their communities.
They will also collaborate with dog enthusiasts to identify feeding points for these strays.
Mandatory Dog Registration: Owners of pet dogs must now register their pets. This registration requires proof of vaccination, and the vaccination certificate must be submitted with the registration form.
The initial registration fee for a pet dog is Rs 1,000, with a renewal fee of Rs 500.
Use of Muzzles: The policy mandates the use of muzzles for pet dogs in public places such as lifts and parks. However, exceptions can be made during extreme heat conditions.
Cleanliness Responsibility: Dog owners are responsible for maintaining cleanliness in and around their residential areas.
Penalty for Violations: Any violation of the dog policy will result in a penalty of Rs 10,000.
Pet Shop Regulations: Pet shop proprietors in Ghaziabad must now acquire a license from the GMC and renew it within 30 days of its expiration date.
