In her temporary absence, Graham Oldroyd, independent non-executive director of the trust, will take over as chair until Balfour's return.

Balfour was appointed to the board in 2015. She is also chair of the Schroder Japan Growth fund and is a non-executive director of AVI Global trust.
Both Schroders and AVI have been contacted regarding their respective handover plans of Balfour's responsibilities during her recovery.
Previously, she spent over 20 years as a fund manager, running Japanese and international equity portfolios for Stewart Ivory, Baillie Gifford and AXA Framlington.
