GMR Airports shares in focus after CCI dismisses anti-competitive allegations
GMR Airports shares will be in focus on Monday after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) dismissed allegations of anti-competitive practices against GMR Airports and Delhi Airport regarding the awarding of certain contracts.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi is operated by the GMR Group-led consortium Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL).
An NGO had alleged that GMR Airports engaged in monopolistic practices and charged excessive fees for contracts related to parking and lounge services at IGIA.
After reviewing submissions from the involved parties, the CCI stated that the contracts for parking and lounge services were awarded through a competitive bidding process, as required under the Operation, Management, and Development Agreement (OMDA).

The complaint also named the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide.
In its 19-page order, the CCI noted that the 13% fee on tenders was a continuation of charges previously levied by AAI and was applied uniformly to all service providers without any additional increase.
The regulator also clarified that under the OMDA agreement, DIAL has the right to sub-contract third-party entities for services like parking and lounges, as well as acquire ownership of such entities.
Finding no prima facie violation of competition law, the CCI dismissed the complaint.
