Toho Co., the renowned Japanese studio, is working on "Godzilla Minus One", which is the latest addition to its «Godzilla» film series. Set to premiere in Japanese theaters on November 4, followed by a U.S. release on December 1, the movie promises to deliver an epic experience.
The announcement comes with an understated poster and a captivating teaser trailer. The film's premise hints at an immense threat facing a postwar Japan already devastated by the aftermath of war between Godzilla, a colossal and mutated kaiju. Helmed by the esteemed director Yamazaki Takashi, "Godzilla Minus One" marks the return of a Japanese-produced «Godzilla» film since the success of 2016's «Shin Godzilla,» which dominated the Japanese box office with earnings of JPY25 billion ($181 million).
Coincidentally, the Japanese release date aligns perfectly with the 69th anniversary of the debut of the original «Gojira» movie, directed by Honda Ishiro, back in 1954. Since that historic launch, more than 35 films featuring the «King of Monsters» have been produced, creating a multi-billion-dollar franchise with a global fanbase. Toho holds the intellectual property and has licensed it for over a decade to Legendary Entertainment of Hollywood.
Legendary's 'Monsterverse' boasts successful titles such as 2014's «Godzilla,» 2019's «Godzilla: King of the Monsters,» and 2021's «Godzilla vs. Kong,» co-distributed with Warner Bros. Excitement surrounds the upcoming «Godzilla Minus One» as Toho takes a fresh approach to the classic character.
