Electronics exports grew nearly by 400% since 2014 — from Rs 38,263 crore in FY15 to Rs 1,89,934 crore in FY22-23 — suggest numbers presented by minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Rajya Sabha. Electronics production, too, grew at over 300%, from Rs 190,366 crore in FY15 to Rs 825,000 crore in FY23.
“Government of India’s goal is to make India a significant electronics system design and manufacturing hub as part of its Atmanirbhar Bharat economic policies. In this regard, government has taken several strategic steps and initiatives for broadening and deepening our electronic manufacturing ecosystem,” he said in a written reply to a question from Sushil Kumar Gupta.
The growth is a result of government initiatives, the minister said. He added that it has created thousands of jobs, of which, a majority are for women.
“Also, India is fast emerging as a trusted source/ country in the global supply chain,” he added, citing the fact that India is the second-largest mobile handset manufacturer by volume, globally, with over 200 manufacturing units making cellular mobile phones and their components, up from two units in 2014. The sector has generated employment for over 57 lakh people, Chandrasekhar said, citing industry estimates.
