Harvey Weinstein, the ex-film mogul serving time in New York, underwent an emergency heart procedure on Monday after experiencing chest pains. Weinstein, 72, was taken from Rikers Island jail to Bellevue Hospital on Sunday due to severe medical conditions, according to his representatives Juda Engelmayer and Craig Rothfeld.

«We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today,» they said. Weinstein underwent pericardiocentesis surgery and is currently in recovery.
Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said they had urged jail officials to transfer Weinstein to Bellevue because of his chest pains, warning, «This guy is going to die on your watch if you don't do something.»
The Department of Correction updated Weinstein's status to show his move to Bellevue’s hospital prison ward from Rikers Island. This change was noted on the department's public inmate-lookup website.
Weinstein has had multiple health issues since his return to Rikers Island from state prison in April, following an overturned 2020 rape and sexual assault conviction that mandated a retrial. Weinstein previously contracted COVID-19 and suffered from pneumonia in July, his representatives said.
