Climbing prices for food, energy and housing squeezed shoppers’ wallets in June, driving consumer inflation to a 9.1% annual rate in June, the highest in nearly 41 years, the Labor Department said Wednesday. More than half of what the average household spends in each month goes toward these items combined.
