With the party falling short of a majority of its own in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, it has been left with little choice but to share cabinet berths with its NDA allies, whose support is now crucial to run the government.
There are 24 standing committees of the parliament, of which 16 are under the Lok Sabha and eight under the Rajya Sabha.
On Friday, the BJP in-charge of states asked state party units to come up with a list of senior leaders who could become chairman of parliamentary committees. Each state will have to provide two to three names for the final list, from which the party will pick the names once the parliament session begins.
