Elon Musk’s tweet saying his planned Twitter acquisition was on hold put the spotlight on questions about fake accounts, which have vexed social-media platforms for years.
Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla, said in a tweet early on 13 May that his $44bn deal to buy Twitter was “temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users”.
