The rising cyber fraud seems to be at its peak, as another scam has been found targeting your Gmail. According to Sam Mitrovic, a tech blogger and an IT consultant the new scam can steal your personal data by using artificial intelligence (AI). The scam is using AI to create fake account recovery requests.
Mitrovic had posted in a blog post how he was scammed with this new scam. He also highlighted the working pattern of the scam. Here’s a detailed look at it.
As explained in a blog post by Mitrovic, the scam can ask you to recover your mail. The moment you accept the request, all your data will be secretly drained. So, how does the scam exactly work? To start with you get a message with urgent instructions to recover your mail. This could be a mail or even a notification. In spite of not initiating a recovery request, you get the message. This request mostly comes from a different country. Even if you decline the request, you will get a call from an official Google number (which is not). Now you fall for this trap thinking it as genuine. The scammer then warns that your account has been logged in from a foreign country. This creates a urgency and you easily approve the recovery request. Now the scammers get access to your data and misuse them for fraudulent activities.
Another way to scam you is calling you from a Google number, talking in a foreign accent (which is all fake) and asking you to receive your mail as soon as possible. These calls are made with the help of AI which makes it appear more real. Also AI-generated mail are being sent to you along with the AI-generated logo, to make it more realistic.
So, how do you stay safe from these scams? Mitrovic has shared some tips on how you can stay safe:
