Employed by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Prakash Mahato had been battling mental health issues for some time. On 9 May 2010, he embarked on a journey to Kolkata for work but inexplicably vanished along the way. His worried family quickly lodged a missing person complaint at the Markacho police station. Despite relentless efforts to track him down, Mahato’s location remained a mystery for over a decade and a half.
The long search finally came to an end when the Markacho police received an unexpected call from Sumit Sao, a hotel operator in Raniganj, West Bengal. Sao had provided Mahato with shelter for several years and had recently discovered his true identity.
