London School of Economics, Satyam Surana, displayed a sense of patriotism and concern for India's image on Monday when he picked up the national flag from the ground during a protest led by Khalistani activists in front of the Indian High Commission in London.
In a video that has since gone viral, Surana's actions have drawn attention to what he perceives as a disconcerting trend among some Indians living abroad who adopt an anti-India stance merely to appear fashionable.
Expressing his unease with such behavior, Surana highlighted the importance of unity, especially at a time when India is rapidly advancing on its path to becoming a global superpower and one of the world's largest economies.
He shared his perspective with NDTV, stating, «It is a matter of worry to see attacks on Indians… India is on its way to becoming a superpower and one of the largest economies. These protests are to distract India from growing.»
In response to the incident, he stressed, «I saved the dignity of my country.
But there are many instances when Indians go outside and become anti-India to be cool. They talk ill about India without any knowledge, just to show they are nice people among those who hate India.»
Surana encouraged fellow Indians to remain vigilant about such occurrences and advocated for a more intellectual approach to counteract these sentiments, stating, «It is upon us to keep an eye on these elements.
It is important to answer them intellectually, not physically.»
The Khalistani protesters, who gathered outside the Indian High Commission in London, were contained by security personnel on both sides of the street. However, a faction of protesters managed to breach the barricades, entering the vicinity of the building
