Ahmedabad, where New Zealand emerged victorious, defeating the reigning champions, England, by nine wickets. However, the event was marred by an unexpected problem – the condition of the spectator seats.
The colossal Narendra Modi Stadium, with a capacity of 1.33 lakh, is set to host the tournament's final match.
Nevertheless, as the sun blazed down on the stadium, a disappointing scene unfolded when a significant portion of the stands appeared to be empty at the start of the game.
Criticism was directed at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a delay in ticket sales. In an effort to boost attendance, local BJP leaders took the initiative to distribute free tickets to women, but the response remained lukewarm.
An individual, taking to X (formerly Twitter), shared his dismay regarding the state of the stadium's seating.
Sourabh Pareek, hailing from Nagaur city in Rajasthan, was among those who attended the opening game. Despite purchasing a ticket worth Rs 2,000, his enthusiasm quickly waned as he found the seats covered in bird droppings.
In his own words, "Hyderabad was not just one example, it’s the same in Ahmedabad for a seat worth 2k."
Pareek went a step further by posting a video showcasing the unsanitary seats, pointing out that it was not an isolated incident, but entire rows were affected, seemingly untouched by any cleaning efforts. The seating area was marred by dust and bird droppings, creating an uncomfortable experience for spectators.
This incident was not isolated to Ahmedabad alone.
