ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 breaks viewership records in India
ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has set new benchmarks in viewership, surpassing all previous multi-nation cricket tournaments in India, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The tournament witnessed a staggering 23% increase in TV ratings, reaffirming cricket’s dominance in the country’s sports landscape.
The live broadcast on Star Sports garnered 137 billion minutes of watch time, while JioHotstar recorded 110 billion minutes, making it one of the most-watched tournaments in history. The thrilling final between India and New Zealand on March 9 in Dubai fueled the surge, drawing a peak concurrency of 122 million live viewers on TV and 61 million on JioHotstar—a record for digital cricket viewership.
The final also secured its place in history as the second-highest-rated ODI on TV (outside of ICC World Cup matches), with 230 million viewers and 53 billion minutes of watch-time across TV and digital platforms.
Speaking on the tournament’s success, ICC Chair Jay Shah stated, «The Champions Trophy made an amazing return after eight years, and the viewership numbers from India have been overwhelming, particularly for the final between India and New Zealand.
The incredible numbers highlight cricket’s massive appeal in India and how multi-language coverage has significantly boosted fan engagement.»
Sanjog Gupta, CEO Sports, JioStar, emphasised the strategic efforts behind the record-breaking numbers. «This accomplishment is a result of the combined strength of the widest multi-platform destination for sports, a fan-focused storytelling approach, and superior technological capabilities.
