Singh was banned from entering the Juna Akhara camp and its surroundings following accusations of using abusive language against Mahant Someshwar Puri, his supposed guru, according to TOI. He purportedly referred to his father as “Hiranyakashyap” (a mythological demon king) and his guru as “pagal” (insane) in a viral social media reel. This sparked a clamour within the Akhara for action against him.
The IITian-turned-sanyasi, who has gained over three lakh followers on Instagram, is also referred to as ‘Engineer Baba.’ A native of Haryana, he claims to have completed a degree in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay before leaving science for spirituality.
“Abhey Singh’s act goes against the guru-shishya (disciple) tradition and sanyas (renuncia- tion). If you have disrespected your guru, you have shown that you don’t have any respect for Sanatan Dharma or the akhara,” TOI quoted Mahant Hari Giri, chief patron of Juna Akhara, as saying.
