In a first, EC takes note of a PM speech; BJP gets notice
Election Commission took note of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks and seved a notice to BJP preseident JP Nadda over the former's «infiltrator» comments during a campaign speech at Banswara in Rajasthan. It has also served a notice to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for Rahul Gandhi's campaign remarks on allegedly accentuating a «North-South» divide.
Both parties have been asked to reply by April 29.
Broadening the ambit, the commission has directed both party presidents to ensure that their star campaigners set «high standards of political discourse and observe the provisions of MCC in letter and spirit». Both PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi are the top star campaigners as well as candidates for their respective parties.
