In jolt for Congress, two MLAs in Assam extend support Sarma-led government
Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha resigned from his post of working president of the state Congress and announced his support to the development projects of the BJP led government in Assam. Congress Mangaldoi MLA Basanta Das also announced his support to the BJP led government in Assam.
Both the leaders had a meeting with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Purkayastha who is MLA from North Karimganj in letter to Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah said,” Sir do hereby resign from the post of Working President, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect and continue the work only as Primary member Of the Congress party”.
Talking to media persons Puryakastha said he and Das had decided to support the development work of the BJP government in Assam. “We support the development of the constituency, state. We will give our cooperation to the government so that there is no politics in the field of development.”
Sarma stated in X, “ Rahul Gandhi had started Bharat Jodo Yatra but now it has become Congress Todo Yatra. Today 2 MLAs of Assam Congress – Shri Kamalaksh De Purkayastha and Shri Basant Das – have decided to support the public welfare policies of Honorable Prime Minister Shri@narendramodiji. Out of 25 MLAs of Assam Congress, till now 4 MLAs including Shri Shashi Kant Das and Shri Siddiq Ahmed have joined our Vikas Yatra. The remaining 21 MLAs will also join us soon”.
