Indian-origin UK doctor receives prison sentence for sexual assault on female patient

Simon Abraham, who claimed to have received specialized massage training in India for two years, has been charged with sexually assaulting a female patient and has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by a UK court. The charges were brought against him when he contacted the woman after she had been treated for severe headaches at the Eastbourne District General Hospital in October 2020. The victim agreed to his visit, believing he could help her condition with his claimed massage expertise.

However, during the massage, Abraham took advantage of the situation and sexually assaulted her. The crime was interrupted when another visitor arrived. He would continue to contact her by phone following the incident.

The woman, shaken by the incident, contacted the hospital and the police, leading to the investigation and trial. During the trial at Chichester Crown Court, evidence confirmed Abraham's guilt, and he was subsequently sentenced to 18 months in prison, with nine months to be served behind bars and the remaining under license parole conditions. In addition to his prison term, he will be registered as a sex offender for a decade and will be subject to a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim for five years.

Detective Constable Jo Gledhill from the Sussex Police emphasized the seriousness of the offense, highlighting how Abraham dishonestly accessed the victim's patient details without official authorization and visited her after work under false pretenses. When initially confronted, he denied the allegations, but later admitted to visiting her house without any sexual contact. The Sussex Police encourage victims of sexual assault to come forward, reassuring them that specially trained officers will handle
