Worsening bilateral diplomatic relations, a burgeoning housing crisis and a tight job market might dull Canada’s allure further, said multiple experts assisting Indian students with higher studies abroad. Canada’s decision to pause fast-track visas has left Indian students facing extended wait times and increased uncertainty, they said.
“Discontinuation of the student direct stream (SDS) programme is completely misguided,” said Akshay Chaturvedi, founder of Leverage.biz. “This will not only further diminish Canada's already deteriorating pole position as a top study destination, but will also add huge stress on the regular visa application pipelines.”
Leverage.biz has more than 5,000 applicants for the coming intakes in Canada. “About 65% of these have enquired about possible alternatives in the UK, the US and Germany,” he said.
