The incident occurred during a birthday celebration in Tha Mai district, Chanthaburi, on Christmas. Kanthee was offered 10,000 Thai baht (₹25,076) per bottle to drink 350ml bottles of Regency whiskey. Despite already being intoxicated, he accepted the challenge and drank two bottles in 20 minutes. Soon after, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead from alcohol poisoning. Large amounts of alcohol consumed rapidly can lead to coma or death.
The man who encouraged Kanthee to take on the challenge has been arrested. Police recovered a pistol, bank passbooks, mobile phones, and SIM cards from his home. During questioning, the man admitted to his actions and was charged with reckless behavior causing death. He now faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 20,000 baht (₹50,152).
