Windows 12, Microsoft's much-awaited successor to Windows 11, have gained momentum following a recent discussion at the Citi 2023 Global Technology Conference during which possible hints for the upcoming operating system (OS) were dropped.
Intel CFO David Zinsner, in a transcript of the event, hinted at a potential «Windows refresh» in 2024, sparking speculation about the release date of the upcoming operating system.
In his comments, Zinsner stated, «We actually think '24 is going to be a pretty good year for clients, in particular, because of the Windows refresh,» which strongly suggests that a significant update for Windows is on the horizon.
While Windows 11 brought visual enhancements and widget support upon its release in October 2021, Microsoft has remained tight-lipped about the details of Windows 12.
The timing of Zinsner's statement aligns with Intel's recent introduction of Intel Core Ultra processors, scheduled for launch on December 14. These processors, primarily designed for laptops, might coincide with the supposed release of Windows 12.
Also, Intel's upcoming Arrow Lake-S CPUs, expected in 2024 with up to 24 cores, could complement the new Windows version, hinting at potential desktop compatibility.
Intel's revolutionary Meteor Lake chips, equipped with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) for enhanced on-device AI performance, indicate a possible emphasis on artificial intelligence in Windows 12.
Microsoft had already introduced AI features in Windows 11, such as Windows Copilot, suggesting a continued focus on AI technology in the next iteration.
