The Indian Premiere League (IPL) mini auction is just hours away, history will be created at the Coca-Cola arena as it is the first time an Indian will take over the auction for full time. Apart from this, it also that a female auctioneer will take charge for the first time in this marquee tournament.
Mallika Sagar, who hosted the recently concluded Women's Premiere League (WPL) auction, is all set to take the role at the IPL 2024 auctions.
Who is Mallika Sagar?
An art collector from Mumbai, Mallika Sagar, has been the host of WPL 2023 and 2024 and is quite known in the sports fraternity. The 48-year-old brings almost 25 years of experience in auctions and has had her previous stint with Pro Kabaddi League auctions, before her first shot in cricket.
A specialist in modern and contemporary Indian art, Sagar, brings her experience in auctioneering from Mumbai's famous Pundole's Art Galleries, where she has led several auctions.
Remarkably, at the age of 26, she was the first Indian auctioneer for Christie's.
Additionally, she was the pioneer of contemporary Indian art auctions.
Sagar ends the streak of full-time overseas auctioneers. She takes over Charu Sharma who replaced Hugh Edmeades midway in the 2023 auctions owing to a medical emergency.
