IPL 2024 Dates and Venue: Despite the upcoming general elections in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in the country, an ANI report said. As per the report, the much-awaited annual sporting event is likely to start on March 22, the tournament's dates align closely with the announcement of the election schedule.
Addressing concerns, a BCCI source told ANI, «There is nothing like that, to shift the tournament outside the country, as the general election will also be at the same time.
If any state doesn't want to host the match at that time, with any justified reason, the match could be shifted to another venue.»
The recently concluded IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai. Australia's Mitchell Starc emerged as the highest-paid player in IPL history, securing a deal with Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore. The auction also experienced a significant surge of 57 per cent in viewership compared to the previous edition.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah shared the impressive statistics, stating, «The IPL auction drew a total of 22.8 million viewers, higher than those for auctions held in the 2022 edition.»
With squads finalized post-auction, teams are gearing up for the competition.
Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, expressed confidence in MS Dhoni's return. CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated, «He has recovered well (from his knee injury). He is undergoing his rehab programmes, started training.
