Virat Kohli is no stranger to the Indian Premier League, often reminding fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)- because the beloved cricketer has been associated with the IPL team since its inception in 2008. Coincidentally, it was the same year that Kohli was selected to represent India in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup as Captain.
It was also the year that forged an unbreakable bond between Kohli and RCB, as the cricketer continues to stay associated with the IPL franchise to this day.
Leading India’s resounding win in the Under 19 World Cup of 2008, the then newbie Kohli would go on to recount his selection by the RCB as an ‘impactful moment’ for his career. RCB had prized Kohli’s skills for no less than USD 30,000 back then, according to one report.
While RCB would go on to become synonymous with the maestro that is Kohli, it was not the only IPL franchise interested in the newcomer. Delhi Capitals (formerly: Delhi Daredevils) also had its sights set on Kohli that year. However, it ultimately decided to choose Pradeep Sangwan instead.
Since his IPL debut in 2008, Kohli has been the only player in the history of the beloved league to represent just one franchise for 15 consecutive seasons. During these years, Kohli led the team as Captain for nine seasons, between 2013 to 2021.
