Manchester United signed World Cup winner Irene Guerrero a few hours before the WSL transfer deadline came to an end. Atletico Madrid midfielder Irene Guerrero was a part of the Spain squad that lifted the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup last month in a nail-biting final against England. She made three substitute appearances for the world champions in the tournament. Before Atletico Madrid, Guerrero had played for Real Betis and Levante. Manchester United Women have officially announced the deal and welcomed Irene.
Welcoming the midfielder United manager Marc Skinner said that Irene is a World Cup winner and her quality is an excellent addition to the team. He also said that her domestic and international experience will be important as the club is pursuing success across multiple competitions.
Reacting to this, Irene Guerrero said that she is very proud of being a part of the Manchester United family and she is looking forward to achieving all the goals together.
Manchester United are also in talks with Lyon to take France forward Melvine Malard on loan for the season. Besides, Marc Skinner is also pushing to sign OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce for around GBP100,000.
The Women's Soccer League begins Sunday, October 1 with six matches, including reigning champions Chelsea vs. Tottenham.
Some WSL clubs have begun their pre-season training. All eyes are set on the WSL because there were record-breaking ticket sales after the Lionesses' European Championship win last year. As England reached the World Cup final, interest in women's football has increased.
