Jio Financial Services Ltd (JFSL), parent company Reliance Industries today announced that Mukesh Ambani's daughter Isha Ambani would join the financial services arm as a non-executive director. The 31-year scion, married to businessman Anand Piramal of the Piramal Group, is already a part of the executive leadership team at Reliance Retail and had also played a pivotal role in conceptualising and launching Jio in 2016.
A graduate of Yale University with a double major in Psychology and South Asian Studies and MBA from Stanford University, she is is driving the expansion of Reliance Retail vertical into new categories, geographies and formats and is focused on enhancing the overall customer experience.RIL said her appointment is subject to approval of shareholders as well the Reserve Bank of India and will be effective from the date of receipt of RBI approval. Besides Isha, the board has also approved the appointment of McLaren Strategic Ventures' Hitesh Sethia as the CEO and MD of Reliance Strategic Ventures, which would later on be renamed as Jio Financial, for 3 years.
Former union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and PNB's former MD and CEO Sunil Mehta would also join the company as independent directors. Mehrishi is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1978 batch belonging to the Rajasthan cadre and has a wide experience of over 42 years.
He has served in various key posts in the Union and Rajasthan governments. Among other positions, he has served as Union home secretary, was also the 13th Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG).
