Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer dominated the Australian bowling and played some majestic shots to hit individual centuries that helped India post its highest score of 399-run against Australia in the second ODI being played in Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.
Australia managed to get opener Ruturaj Gaikwad out cheaply 8 (12) and then Shreyas Iyer 105 (90) joined Shubman Gill 104 (97) to steady the ship. The duo hit scintilating boundries across the park to stitch a 200 runs partnership.
After the departure of Gill and Iyer, India captain KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan maintained the momentum against the potent Australian attack, which looked somewhat out-of-sorts as Indian batters displayed their full-flurry of shots.
KL Rahul made 52 off 38 balls, Ishan Kishan contributed an 18-ball 31.
Australia didn't get any respite even after the departure of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as India's T20 specialist Suryakumar Yadav transitioned well into ODI format and smashed four consecutive sixes in Cameron Green's one over to pile up on the misery for the visitors in front of a packed crowd. Yadad needed just 37 balls to score 72 after reaching his half-century in 24 deliveries.
After winning the first ODI in Mohali, India is looking to seal the three-match series in Indore by taking a 2-0 unassailable lead.
Brief scores:
India: 399/5 in 50 overs (Shubman Gill 104, Shreyas Iyer 105, Suryakumar Yadav 72 not out, KL Rahul 52).
