probe into the mysterious death of three civilians who were allegedly picked up by the army for questioning in connection with Thursday's terrorist ambush on army vehicles.
The families of the victims alleged that the deceased and some other people were picked up by the army from their homes in Topa Peer village in Bafliaz area of Poonch district on Friday morning, and in the afternoon they were informed about their death.
The political parties in Kashmir also alleged that the three civilians were killed «in custody», and demanded compensation and probe into the killings.
«The medico-legal formalities were conducted and legal action in this matter has been initiated by the appropriate authority,» read the official statement of the J&K administration.
«The government has announced compensation for each of the deceased. Further, the government has also announced compassionate appointments to the next of kin of each deceased.»
On Thursday, two army vehicles had come under attack at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz area.
Four army men were killed and two others injured in the attack. The bodies of two army men were allegedly mutilated and their weapons snatched.
«Eight to nine people, including Safeer Hussain, Mohammad Showket and Shabir Ahmad, were taken away by the army on Friday morning around 9:30 am from their residences in the village.
They were taken to a nearby Mal Post camp of the army,» Sadeeq Ahmad, a relative and neighbour of one of the deceased, told ET. «They had injury marks and torture marks on their bodies and we have all the evidence of that.»
As per the people cited earlier, Safeer's brother is in the army and is posted in the northeast.
