The world No. 99 became only the 14th player in PGA Tour history to achieve a sub-60 score—an extraordinary feat that has now occurred just 15 times in total.
Knapp opened his round with five consecutive birdies, including an astonishing 60-foot putt on the second hole. He then maintained his blistering pace with three birdies in a row on holes nine to 11, followed by another trio on 13 to 15, culminating in a dramatic 31-foot putt.
Standing on the 16th tee at 11 under par, Knapp was fully aware of the historic moment. As reported by ESPN, he told his caddie he wanted to play two under in the last three holes to chase a record-breaking 58.
However, a near miss on a 12-foot birdie putt at the 17th left him just short of that milestone.
