Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Banking and Chemical sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003), which rose 10.19% or 65.00 points to trade at 703.00 at the close. Meanwhile, NTT Data Corp. (TYO:9613) added 4.52% or 87.00 points to end at 2,011.50 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) was up 2.65% or 40.00 points to 1,547.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which fell 8.60% or 569.00 points to trade at 6,047.00 at the close. Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) declined 6.54% or 300.00 points to end at 4,290.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) was down 5.62% or 265.00 points to 4,447.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2378 to 1331 and 196 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 10.19% or 65.00 to 703.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.49% to 16.81.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.54% or 0.40 to $73.49 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.26% or 0.21 to hit $78.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.64% or 13.20 to trade at $2,064.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.00% to 142.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.13% to 156.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 101.36.
