Jefferies Australia has poached Morgan Stanley managing director and global capital markets boss, Mark Burmeister.
Street Talk understands Burmeister, who spent 13 years at Morgan Stanley, is expected to join Jefferies as vice chairman of capital markets next week. The move will see Burmeister report to Jefferies chief executive Michael Stock, marking a reunion of sorts. The two worked together at UBS between 2004 and 2010.

“Mark is one of the most experienced capital markets advisers in the Australian market… he has been integral to the origination and execution of over $100 billion of equity raising across government privatisations, demergers, initial public offerings, follow-on deals and secondary transactions,” Stock told staff in an internal announcement on Thursday evening.
Over his 30-year career, Burmeister, known as ‘Burmie’ by corporate Australia, has helped oversee the privatisations of CSL, TAB, TAB NSW, Qantas and Telstra, and raisings for Woodside, Santos and Transurban, among others. He’s also well-known to the financial sponsors set, navigating ASX-listings for the likes of Virtus, Monash IVF, Wisetech, and National Storage.
Burmeister will be based in Sydney and “provide senior support to our corporate, private capital and ECM coverage alongside ECM head Peter Molesworth,” Stock said in the internal memo.
