Ken Jennings is set to host the 40th season of 'Jeopardy!,' which resumes on September 11. This season comes with changes as confirmed by executive producer Michael Davies.
Amidst strikes led by SAG-AFTRA, there was uncertainty regarding whether Jennings would host alone or if co-host Mayim Bialik would return.
It was revealed in May that Mayim Bialik, known for 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Call Me Kat,' stepped away from hosting the final week of season 39 due to the ongoing strike.
The show's return includes the Season 37 Jeopardy! Second Chance competition, featuring 27 contestants from Season 37, who didn't secure championship titles initially. These contestants now have another opportunity to win.
Davies, who assumed the role of executive producer and showrunner last year, acknowledged that many of his plans for Season 40 and post-season episodes had been disrupted due to the strike, putting the show in a holding pattern.
He mentioned on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast that he holds great respect for the writers, describing them as cherished members of the Jeopardy! team.
However, the strike has led to changes in Season 40.
In addition, second and third place prizes have been increased by $1,000, with the second-place winner receiving $3,000 and the third-place winner getting $2,000. This adjustment aims to ease the financial burden of contestants traveling to Jeopardy! following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ken Jennings, a former champion, will also host 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' for its second season starting on September 27, without Mayim Bialik.
'Jeopardy!' is produced by Sony Pictures Television. It is distributed domestically by CBS Media Ventures, and internationally by Paramount Global Content
