Jio Infocomm is chasing a ₹70,000-crore annual revenue opportunity as part of its "change India project" to connect 100 million households with broadband in the coming couple of years, a senior company executive told ET. This will be at the heart of the telecom operator's push to monetise 5G services and drive average revenue per user (ARPU).
While fibre remains an important means, its fixed wireless access (FWA) offering, JioAirFiber, will be key to achieving the ambitious figure.
«AirFiber will reach us to those 100 million homes in the coming couple of years,» the executive said, adding that the company is on track to achieve the goal, barring some hiccups in the supply chain.
«For us, it's a 'change India' project. Once we get into those 100 million homes, it will allow us the ability to offer 'n' number of services on top of that like education, entertainment, etc.,» the official added.
Jio, the telecoms unit of Reliance Industries, launched JioAirFiber in eight cities including Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai in September 2023, and its pan-India coverage is expected in the coming months.
As per the company, the service will help overcome the challenges of last-mile connectivity and provide an opportunity to TV and broadband users to upgrade to a world-class entertainment, broadband and digital experience at much more affordable prices.
Competitor Bharti Airtel launched its FWA service — Airtel Xstream AirFiber — in August.
«Assuming a ₹600 monthly average revenue per user, AirFiber is a big 5G monetisation opportunity for us,» the executive said.
Jio has said the launch of FWA service will increase addressable market to 200 million connected premises over the next 3 years. BofA analysts estimated the FWA revenue
