WASHINGTON—President Biden continues to tout the strength of the economic recovery as one of the hallmarks of his presidency, frequently arguing that it is better than the headlines might suggest. Yet as inflation has risen, he has also tried to reassure struggling families that he knows what they are going through.
Friday brought an unexpectedly strong labor report showing 528,000 jobs were added in July, and the economy has now recouped the number of jobs lost in the wake of the pandemic. The unemployment rate is at 3.5%, matching a half-century low.
