Ashford and Groban will play their final performance on January 14, 2024. Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster will step into the roles of Sweeney Todd and Mrs.
Lovett, respectively, on February 09, 2024. Further, Tveit and Foster will play their final performance on May 05, 2024.
The most recent revival of Stephen Sondheim's dark musical is helmed by Thomas Kail (known for his work on «Hamilton»). The musical was later premiered at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in early 2023.
This production has garnered favorable reviews and consistently attracted large audiences on Broadway, frequently performing to capacity crowds and securing two Tony Awards.
Tveit bagged the Tony Award for his performance in Moulin Rouge! The Musical and also for appearing on Broadway in Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal, Wicked and Hairspray. On the other hand, Foster is a two-time Tony Award winner. The actress won the Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Anything Goes and has been nominated for seven Tony Awards, which also includes her latest Broadway role starring in The Music Man opposite Hugh Jackman.
Meanwhile, a character-focused first-look photo featuring Tveit and Foster was unveiled for fans today.
Sharing the first look, the show's official Instagram dropped a cool caption as they said there is a new deadly duo in two as of February 9, with Aaron Tveit taking on the role of Sweeney Todd and Sutton Foster stepping into the character of Mrs. Lovett. The caption also had the hashtag 'Attend The Tale'.
