‘Jugaadu’ Bengaluru designer's 'lazy' water purifier trick goes viral amid city’s water crisis
Sharing a photo of her setup, Ashita explained, «I just got a water purifier and first batch [of water] needed to be emptied. As a lazy designer, I had to do something.» The image showed the purifier mounted on the kitchen wall, dispensing water into a large plastic bottle. The bottle was modified to allow excess water to overflow into a smaller container, which then directed the surplus into the sink.
Social Media Applauds the ‘Jugaadu’ Designer
The setup quickly went viral, drawing praise for its efficiency. Many social media users hailed her as a «jugaadu designer» for her resourcefulness. One user commented, «This should be part of the resume as problem-solving skills, time and process optimisation.»

Another joked, «Kash itta hi dimag mein career mein laga deta toh UPSC nikal leta (If I used my brain like this, I would have cleared the UPSC entrance exam).» Others suggested further improvements, including using a polythene sheet for water flow or collecting the excess water for cleaning and gardening purposes.
While Ashita’s hack garnered admiration, Bengaluru is grappling with a severe water crisis. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) recently imposed a ban on using drinking water for non-essential activities such as gardening, vehicle washing, and construction. Violators face a fine of Rs 5,000, with an additional Rs 500 penalty for repeated offenses.
