Juneteenth 2024 is here and the US is celebrating what is considered to be its second Independence Day. This marks the end of slavery in the US. After President Joe Biden signed the legislation adding June 19 to the list of federal holidays in 2021, millions of Americans get a paid holiday on this historic day. The American civil war ended on this day after General Gordon Granger marched into Texas with his troops in 1865 and released over 250,000 individuals working as ‘slaves’ in the various agricultural fields of the southern states. Will the retail stores, food restaurants and other eateries be open?
USA Today reported that major restaurants including McDonalds, KFC, Wendy’s, Dunkin’ and others will be open. Retail chains including Walmart, Costco and Target will also be open but its business hours may be affected with restricted timings due to the holiday. It has been advised to check with the local stores before visiting.

Pharmacies including Walgreens will remain open during regular business hours and many Rite Aid outlets will also remain open (better to call them before planning your visit).
