Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut was one of the few public figures who lent her voice to the ongoing campaign, demanding justice for the victim. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ actress called the crime “horrific” and demanded the CBI investigate the case. She also asked the government to show the rapist no mercy.
“Murder of a trainee woman doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata is horrible and horrific. The semi-nude body of the woman post-graduate trainee doctor was found inside the seminar hall on Friday morning. She was brutally murdered, and her body bore multiple injury marks. The preliminary autopsy report indicated sexual abuse before her murder. I hope the case is transferred to the CBI for a complete inquiry and the assaulter is punished harshly,” she wrote.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal declared that if the Kolkata Police cannot resolve the case within the current week, it will be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Following a meeting with the victim's family, she emphasized the state's intention for the murder trial of the RG Kar Hospital doctor to proceed in a fast-track court.
