70th National Film Awards, held on Tuesday, in New Delhi, actor-director Rishab Shetty emerged as a standout, bagging the Best Actor award for his captivating performance in Kantara. The award ceremony, hosted at Vigyan Bhawan, saw Shetty receive the honour from President Droupadi Murmu. Expressing his gratitude, Shetty dedicated his award to the people of Karnataka and his entire team, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the film’s success.

In a statement following the event, Shetty shared, «I am just the face of the film; this win is due to the hard work of the entire team – the production house, DOP, and technicians. I thank the National Awards panel for recognising Kantara and, most importantly, the audience for making this film a success.» He also expressed how special the National Awards are for an artist and reiterated his commitment to creating films that leave a meaningful impact on society. «Every film has an impact. Our goal is to make films that inspire change or influence in society,» he added.
Kantara did not stop at the Best Actor award. It also secured the title of Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, further underlining its massive influence. Released in September 2022, the film, set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, revolves around a Kambala champion's struggle against a forest officer. Shetty not only starred in the film but also directed it, cementing his place as one of the most promising talents in the Indian film industry.
