Kanye West has revealed that his initial diagnosis of bipolar disorder was incorrect, and he has since been identified as autistic. During a conversation with Justin Laboy on The Download podcast, West—who now goes by the name Ye—shared that his wife, Bianca Censori, encouraged him to seek a reassessment.

“I consulted a doctor… My wife insisted on it because she felt that my personality traits didn’t align with bipolar disorder. She told me, ‘I’ve seen bipolar behavior before, and this doesn’t seem like that.’ Eventually, I discovered that I am actually autistic," he said.
West explained that this new diagnosis provided him with clarity about certain behaviors he had exhibited in the past. He referenced a 2018 incident in which he publicly supported Donald Trump, donning a Make America Great Again cap and declaring his admiration for the former president, stating, “The public can’t dictate whether I love him or not.”
“Autism makes you focus intensely on specific things,” West remarked. “‘I’m wearing this Trump hat because I genuinely like Trump.’ And when people tell you not to, you just become fixated on it. That’s the struggle I face.”
He also noted that his contrarian nature affects his creative process. “When fans suggest I should make an album a certain way, I tend to do the complete opposite,” he said, referencing his song Can’t Tell Me Nothing.
