Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has written to the Aam Admi Party (AAP) requesting its participation in the party's campaign efforts in all the 28 constituencies to counter the BJP.
KPCC President DK Shivakumar, who is also the Deputy CM, has written to AAP State President Mukhya Mantri Chandru, requesting him to deploy the party workers and leaders to work for the success of Congress candidates to save the country's “democracy and the Constitution” that had been threatened under the authoritarian regime of the BJP. The AAP joining hands with the Congress would defy communal forces and consolidate the secular votes, he said.
Chandru, responding positively to the request, suggested to Shivakumar to hold a meeting with the leaders and office-bearers of AAP to draw up a campaign strategy.
The request for AAP’s support is among several strategies the Congress is employing to repeat the success it has had in the assembly polls in May last year. The party has been drawing up constituency-wise strategies to counter the BJP which has teamed up with the regional party JDS. The BJP, which won 25 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, has been under pressure to put up a grand show against the Congress.
