Karnataka on Monday offered 100-acre plot to Foxconn Industrial Internet (FII), a subsidiary of the world's largest contract manufacturer Foxconn at the Japanese industrial park (JIP) in Tumakuru district. The Foxconn unit makes electronic devices, cloud service equipment, industrial robots, and counts Apple, Amazon, Lenovo, Huawei and Dell among its clients.
A high-level Foxconn Industrial Internet team led by CEO Brand Cheng met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Industries Minister MB Patil and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge in Bengaluru and discussed their plans for Karnataka. Senior government officials told ET that FII was considering Karnataka to set up its modern facility, and the Industries department has suggested a site in Tumakuru district which is close to Bengaluru.
But FII is yet to respond and may accept the site suggested or prefer a different location. «The talks are still in early stages, and nothing is finalised yet,» an official said, not willing to be identified.
The FII team visited the Japanese industrial park in Tumakuru at the CM's request. An official statement from the government said the FII unit at Tumakuru will operate as an ancillary unit to Foxconn's main iPhone assembly facility the company has planned near the international airport in Bengaluru, making the smartphone cover and casing as well as other components.
