Karnataka is planning to establish a dedicated ministry for the well-being of Kannadigas living abroad.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday reiterated the state government's commitment to establishing a ministry for the well-being of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Kannadigas. This announcement aligns with the promises made in the Congress's 2023 assembly polls manifesto.
NRIs hailed from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia, Singapore, and Western Asian countries were invited by Speaker U T Khader to witness the assembly proceedings.
Highlighting the need for a specialized ministry, Parameshwara drew parallels with Kerala, where a separate NRI Ministry has been established to address the concerns of expatriates, including repatriation in the unfortunate event of deaths abroad. He reiterated the commitment made in their manifesto, saying, «Like in Kerala, in Karnataka too, we will create a ministry (for NRIs).»

«Our government will create an NRI Ministry in the coming days, providing all necessary assistance in accordance with the law. The concerns raised by NRIs will be seriously considered and addressed,» the minister said in the Assembly.
