Kashmiri Pandit migrants living in Jammu accused the ruling BJP of exploiting them for electoral purposes and failing to address their concerns and ensure their proper rehabilitation.
Kashmiri Pandits living in the flats of Jagti township of Jammu--which has been allotted to them by the earlier government--have accused the administration in J&K of forcibly seizing and sealing the flats of residents who were travelling for personal or health reasons.
“BJP made tall promises to us but we are still suffering.
They just use our plight for electoral purposes but nobody pays heed to our pain on ground,” said Shadi Lal Pandita, president of Jagti tenement committee in Jammu, where 4224 flats are inhabited by pandits, who migrated from Kashmir in late 1980’s and early 1990s. The township was built by the government as part of the rehabilitation of the migrant pandits.
“Administration has forcibly emptied 10 to 15 flats and sealed around ten other flats, just because the residents were travelling for health or personal reasons.
They behave like hooligans and throw the belongings out before sealing the flat,” said Pandita.
The Kashmiri Pandits accused the officials in the Relief and Rehabilitation(M) office in Jammu of frequently misbehaving with the pandits besides never addressing their concerns. “Some officials are in cahoots with some local brokers, within the community who give these temporarily empty flats to other families after taking money from them,” alleged Pandita.
“Our flat has been sealed by them forcibly which is illegal and inhuman. The officer also misbehaved with my mother and wife,” said Sameer Raina, who also lives in Jagti township. The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Kuldeep Krishan Sidha said that
