Lok Sabha elections: Maulana Badruddin Ajmal sweats it out in Dhubri
Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, seeking re-election to the Lok Sabha seat is sweating it out in Dhubri.
He is up against Congress’s Rakibul Hussain, a prominent leader from Muslim minority community and former minister.
BJP’s ally in state government, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has fielded Zabed Islam from Dhubri setting up a multi cornered contest in Dhubri.
Ajmal, who is president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has been winning the seat since 2009 and is facing huge anti-incumbency. Both Congress and BJP are attacking the AIUDF. Congress alleges Ajmal’s AIUDF is hand and glove with BJP, and BJP vice versa.

In 2021 Lok Sabha polls, Congress and AIUDF jointly fought the assembly polls in Assam. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress had won 3 seats while the AIUDF got one. The BJP had increased its tally from 7 to 9 in the last general elections.
